Is getting just plain annoying. It's so ridiculous nowadays. You can't even make an innocent comment or something. I understand there are some things that are offensive, but you have to take into account intent here. Some people are even taking offense at how many tickers there are in a signature! I mean, yes, it can get annoying, but it isn't really that big of a deal. I don't get it.
Where do we draw the line? If something is offensive to anyone, can we no longer say it? Soon we'll run out of things to say. Diplomacy...yes, I can see that... don't go out of your way to hurt people. But PC junk is just that...junk.
Please post your thoughts, everyone.

The tickers could cause the pages to load slower. That's a valid complaint, I think. HB is already slow enough as it is.
I think the tickers are dumb, myself. But I don't think they should be taken down cuz I think that.

I disagree there.. I love Misscurleycat and she knows it, but too many tickers is a little bothersome. No one took offense from the ticker incident... it was more of a "Please have curtesy"
It is also not just your own personal space. A message board is for fresh interaction not preposted material. If thats the kind of thing you want you create your own webbie or set up an account at myspace.
And Curly you know I luv ya!

Hey I caused that ticker mess!
Not that I'm proud of it or any thing....
But I do think they are over reacting just a little bit.

I can see both sides of the arguement, but I really think that signatures are more the personal space of the person and should not be overly censored. JMO.

Since you asked...lol...(um, yes I know, no one did)....
I think the tickers are really silly and annoying, but I feel the same way about numerous large pictures too. Why not just link an album? (I love the albums by the way!)
I felt kind of silly having what I believe is a long signature with our dolls listed. But, since everyone else had one, I joined in too. It's all just so repetitive and slows things down horribly.
I'm fairly new to AG boards, but frequent several other local boards just like this. I guess Im just not used to all the pics, tickers, and graphics. We just stick to typewritten words and a few emoticons.
No big deal though! I love the other AG board and am finding this one to be quite interesting too!

Tra, when people were frustrated by Miss CurlyCat's signature, it contained five tickers, not just the one she has now. I can see how that would be a problem.
Furthermore, judging from your post in the thread about Jess elsewhere, I'm assuming that your problem with people "taking offense" has more to do with race than with tickers.
Why does it bother you when people are offended by racism? I thought the person who spoke about their feelings of pain at racist language had a valid point. I'm not sure if you've ever been called a derogatory name or been discriminated against because of an unchangeable part of your identity, but it creates deep wounds. Racism is not something about which to be flippant.
Furthermore, being "PC" is an outdated concept invented by political pundits who didn't want to take responsibility for the pain their own racist/sexist/homophobic language caused. Being responsible for your own language and actions is a virtue, not an annoyance.

Truly racist comments are wrong wrong wrong. No doubt about that. But people are saying that calling someone a certain name is racist when it isn't. No one takes into account intent. I like saying a certain word better because it is shorter to say or because it sounds better or something like that. I don't go out of my way to hurt people. But, let's take an example.
Janitor
Sanitary Engineer
The latter is PC while the former is easier to say. Now, I see nothing wrong with being a janitor, but it seems to me that people who want to be called sanitary engineers are ashamed of their status as a janitor and want to be called something different. The same could be said of certain "racial" words.
I think PC is wrong for many reasons. PC junk is not the same thing as watching your language so as not to be offensive. It is way out of line and pretty soon everything will offend someone so no one will say it.
Instead of being able to say "The dog ran." We'll have to say "The four-legged animal moved swiftly." Or something like that. Humorous, but possible.

Tra, many words are inappropriate to say because they have complex histories. You may not be familiar with the histories of these words, but if you were, you might be more understanding.
There is a reason we don't say the N word, because it is offensive and blatantly racist. We are exposed to a lot of discourse about racism against African Americans, so we are more aware of these words than those relating to other communities.
For example, we dont' talk much about American Indians and the racism they experience. Some people have no problem with the fact that we have a football team named "The Redskins." This is a terrible, terrible slur, but many people just see it as common parlance and don't think about how this hurts people.
